Case Study: Monitored Commercial Fire Alarm System & Emergency Lighting Install at Scout and Guide Headquarters in Downham Market, Norfolk
We were tasked back in 2023 with designing a monitored fire alarm system and emergency lighting system for a scout and guide headquarters in Downham Market, Norfolk.
We designed them systems for fire alarm and emergency lighting to meet BS5839 and also BS5266 and prepared the relevant quotations.
After a year of fund raising the client was in a position to have the works completed.
This installation was completed in just 3 days encompassing a twinwire fire alarm system manufactured by CTEC using apollo alarmsense devices from optical smoke detectors, manual call points, remote indicators for void detection and open area sounder beacons for disabled toilets.
The emergency lighting was installed using ansell lightings range of guardian bulkheads to provide the required lux levels on the escape routes and open areas to aid compliance with BS5266.
The fire alarm system is externally monitored via our ARC (alarm receiving centre) EMCS. The process signals for fire alarm and fire fault using a CSL dualcom pro fire device which immediately transmits signals to their ARC and contacts the relevant keyholders and or fire brigade attendance where required.
All visible cabling was concealed utilising PVC conduit which was fixed using fire rated saddles to comply with BS7671 to prevent premature collapse of cables. In the roof void areas the cabling was clipped direct using fire rated p clips to aid compliance with both BS5839 and BS5266.
As a respectable contractor we even serviced their fire extinguishers for free and installed their fire extinguisher signage free of charge. As a finishing touch we had the building cleaned to a high standard before the systems were handed over and the relevant training provided.
