Case Study: Commercial Life Safety Systems & Intruder Alarm System Upgrade

Proven Results

We recently were asked to upgrade the Life Safety Systems and Intruder Alarm System at a local Village Hall in West Norfolk.

The previous fire detection system and emergency lighting systems were very dated and had multiple non conformances across the board from failed emergency lighting, insufficient number of emergency lights fitted, fire alarm panel was non compliant with EN54 and also on further inspection we found that the fire alarm detection systems were not wired in FP200 fire rated cabling. We were also asked to give the intruder alarm system a freshen up as this was falling into disrepair including outdated batteries, and a very worn external sounder.

What the customer has received is a now compliant 2 zone fire alarm system – now wired in the correct cable FP200 giving them the required fire resistance of the cabling. This encompasses all areas of the premises using apollo conventional optical smoke detectors, heat detectors and manual call points. We managed to salvage the original bells as these were still in good working order keeping costs down for the client. We fitted our go to for conventional systems – the CTEC 4 zone conventional system leaving a few zones spare for any future expansion that may be required. Finished off with a compliant framed fire alarm zone plan to meet the latest revision of BS5839.1-2025 where the fire alarm zone plan has to be provided and displayed at the fire alarm panel location.

The emergency lighting system was totally overhauled – most lights have been replaced with the Ansell Lighting range of the guardian LED bulkhead giving them the required lux levels and peace of mind of a 5 year manufacturer warranty. New emergency lighting has been installed in deficient areas to aid compliance with BS5266 including toilet facilities and also on parts of the escape routes that were not covered previously.

The security system has been upgraded including new panel, remote keypad, internal speaker, external sounder and internal PIR detectors. We utilised the existing cabling as this was found and tested to be in good order. We opted to use our trusted manufacturers Orisec for the bulk of the intruder alarm equipment with the PIR sensors coming from the Texecom Capture range. We use these brands because they are trusted for not only their longevity but there ease of installation and aesthetics. The external sounder is illuminated by and LED panel with inbuilt photocell meaning when it goes dusk the external sounder becomes illuminated giving the peace of mind to the client that this is an active deterrent.

The above sums up our multi skilled solutions meaning one call can enable you to sort multiple issues with one company – Norfolk Fire Solutions Ltd, your local trusted fire & security specialists.
