Case Study: Commercial LED Lighting upgrade at Railway Sites on Norfolk Coast
We’d like to showcase a commercial LED lighting upgrade performed on the North Norfolk coastline at four separate sites – one maintenance depot and three railway stations.
New Customer contacted us and wanted to save money on their energy usage and had also been given the option to receive grants to fund towards this work taking place. They requested a lighting audit to be performed to ascertain what could be done.
Following a site survey we established that site had little to no emergency lighting in place and also the existing normal site lighting was under efficient and costing them more to run than needs be.
Quotes were prepared in phases and tenders submitted – once successfully announced that we had won the contract we were asked to do the works in one go and on a short timescale to fit in with the restrictions of the tender bid for the grant funding.
We successfully installed over 250 new LED lights ranging from high bay UFO fittings to non corrosive type fittings across the four sites along with converting the most part of them to emergency with a 3 hour battery backup system built into the units themselves. We also specified our lights to be from Ansell Lighting – the reason being for this is the up-to 7 year warranty they provide along with their reputation for reliability and longevity. During our time doing this installation our IPAF trained engineers worked at height using MEWPS and mobile tower scaffolding and also worked around all the clients rolling stock – preventing them the need to clear out the maintenance sheds keeping their business moving whilst we were working hard to improve their workspace. All works were completed on time and in budget and being fully project managed by Norfolk Fire Solutions Ltd.
The hard work demonstrated has led to the client taking another step closer to becoming more carbon efficient in their daily business operations whilst reducing their energy bills and improving the workspace and safety for their staff overall.
At the end of the project, we worked with the client to make sure as much of the old lighting system and packaging from the new one would be recycled or re purposed where possible. We managed to recycle all cardboard, all old metal bodied light fittings were sent for recycling and all lamps were sent back to our lighting wholesaler for safe recycling under the WEEE directive.
